Trying to get more involved
30 September, 200830 September, 2008 0 comments Uncategorized Uncategorized

This isn't really the right place to introduce myself, and I suppose at some point I will get on the message board and say hi. I've tried to make it to TWO different functions and failed miserably so I guess I won't commit. I'll just say that I hope I can make it to the Oct 15 support group.

Pride was cool. This year was my first one evar. We got down to Cedar Springs early enough to find friends, put camping chairs down, get lunch at BEP and I even knocked down two tequila shots to fend off the crowd phobia. Great location, right next to the announcer, who I thought was the best part of the parade. The subsequent festival was so crowded, though, dang. We signed a few petitions and met up with a good friend of mine who worked the Stonewall booth. Then we high-tailed it out of there - too many people near the music and food. I brought my 13-year-old - the parade bored her, but she was more than happy to collect beads. She made a comment to me on the way home - "Almost makes me sorry I'm not gay." She cracks me up. I hope to bring her to one of the functions at some point.

So yeah. I guess that's it for now. I'm at work, but that's usually when I have the most time. Domestic life leaves me without much time for activism or support groups or a socai life beyond the specially planned events. But I'm trying people. There has to be a way to squeeze more hours into the day and more energy out of this turnip, right???
