I know many reasons why people love, but I have no real clue why they hate. I mean, what purpose does it serve in their lives? How do they profit from it?  I understand hostility, in the moment, reacting to a perceived violation or threat, and I understand intense dislike based on relevant experiences.  I can even comprehend irrational loathing based in phobia, or in mental illness.  But what I cannot fathom is how one can feel hatred for entire categories of fellow humans, can deny their humanity, can casually desire that they may all die horribly.  Are the haters barren islands, apart from the main?  And the greatest mystery of all to me is how they can profess to love their own children while damning other people's children to hell, gleefully.  I am only a stranger passing through this culture, an alien on the lam.  Can any one enlighten me?  I believe that I may have to kill my television.
