Teaching Tolerance is a special project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the folks who were the first to take on the Klan in court and win. It is a collection of resources for teachers and other youth mentors that tries to prevent the seeds of hate and intolerance from taking root and creating a new generation of the very hate groups that the SPLC fights. Lately, they've been very good about including GLBT issues side-by-side with issues of race, religion, and gender --despite the hate mail they've gotten about it.

Their latest issue tells the tragic story of the murder of a Gay Transgender-ish high school kid in front of his whole class. The important part of the article is near the end, with a Q&A with the article's author on what the new dangers are for GLBT kids and what educators can do. What I found particularly chilling was that there are religious groups teaching kids to go into schools and "minister" to GLBT kids to try to get them to not be gay, as if that were even possible.
